LWV of Lawton

League of Women Voters of Lawton

The purpose of the League of Women Voters of Lawton is to promote political responsibility through informed and active participation of citizens in government. The League of Women Voters is nonpartisan, in that it does not support or oppose any political party or candidate; it is political in that it takes positions on selected governmental issues after members study and agree on the content. The League of Women Voters of Lawton performs many services through different venues. The League works to have an educated and informed voter. As a group, the League studies issues that are important in the local area as well as in the state and in the nation in a timely fashion, in order to have a position to act from or to advocate for. We gather nonpartisan information on candidates and bills for elections and make it available on websites and as an insert in the local newspaper. The League's Voter Service committee organizes forums for information on issues and candidates. We also organize opportunities to encourage people to register to vote or change information, such as home address when necessary.
